Research activities: >120 publications in SCI journals including NatureScienceNature Communications and PNAS. Four patents of invention.

 

Research direction: macromolecule and organelle damage and degeneration in age-related disorder and disease.

 

Current interests: stem cell senescence; neurodegeneration; telomere uncapping; lysosomal storage; sphingomyelin transmembrane trafficking and recycling; protein ubiquitination; RNA acetylation; pulmonary fibrosis; Parkinson’s disease.

Previous major awards: (1) Beckman Coulter Discovery Science Award (2009), awarded annually to an Australian biochemist or molecular biologist for distinguished contributions to the field of biochemistry or molecular biology, based on work carried out predominantly within Australia, by Australian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). (2) Servier Award by the Endocrine Society of Australia (1996), for the best published work in the previous year by a member of the Endocrine Society of Australia. (3) Australian Life Sciences Research Award 1995, for outstanding contribution to life science research presented by the Australian Society of Medical Research, Today’s Life Science and Beckman Instruments. (4) AW Campbell award for excellence in Neuroscience (1995), by the Australian Neuroscience Society. (5) Inaugural NARF Post-doctoral Investigator Award (1995), by the National Association of Research Fellows, National Health & Medical Research Council of Australia.

聚焦衰老引起蛋白质及鞘脂失稳态的机制。

1. 有丝分裂细胞衰老的调控:染色体端粒与蛋白稳态对于细胞衰老、永生化及组织纤维化的调控机制,聚焦衰老引起蛋白质稳态问题;

2. 非分裂细胞衰老的机制:鞘脂转运对神经细胞膜性结构、蛋白质及细胞器稳态作用机制。
